The ironies and complexities in my portraits of women are directly related to the psychology of appearances within and in conflict with sociological and cultural standards of beauty. Using printed images as my primary medium and collage as my means, I construct images of women that may be characterized as haughty, humorous or seductive.
I design composite visages by placing quasi-masks over the contours of fashion model faces. A crop of hair and clothing are the only clues to an underlying reality. It is in the simultaneous visual reading of the whimsical cover-ups that candid truths or deceptions are revealed.
